1. Mitch’s Fish Market and Sushi Bar

Opened in 2004 by fisherman father and son duo, Mitch and Craig Mitchell, you can expect high quality and fresh sushi. The fresh catches are prepared by master sushi chefs from Japan. I know we said to-go, but do give your taste buds some time to really savor the care and skill put into this sushi!

2. Family BBQ

Like it’s name, you get straightforward and caring service at this local Korean BBQ restaurant. They have a vast menu (as well as the option to get creative with your own box lunch combination choices). Does BBQ chicken, Pork, Beef, or veggies sound good to you? Shrimp tempura? Or curious about some local favorites like ​​mochiko chicken, garlic chicken, and teri hamburger steak? Then, this is your lunch stop!

3. Big Kahuna’s Pizza n Stuffs 

Drooling for pizza? Try this locally owned neighborhood pizza spot that’s been open since 1994. Their pizza dough is made in house daily so you will want to eat the crust! A favorite here is the Sumo Special which features Kalua pork. They also offer “stuffs” like sandwiches and their well known “garlic balls”.

4. Taka’s Box Lunch 

While this spot is a little further from the hotel, about a half hour walk, the food is worth it. You can’t get more “food to go vibe” than a Hawaiian box lunch. This local, family owned business has been open since 2019. Locals talk about how delicious the food is and how friendly the staff are. This spot closes at 1:30pm, so make sure you get your order in by then!

5. Joe’s Grill Express

Another locally owned box lunch spot that is a must try. You’ll be met by the “homey” feel of the location and the welcoming faces of the staff. This option is less than a five minute walk from our hotel. If you want to avoid the lunch rush here (it’s popular!), make sure to order before 12pm! And before 2pm, because that’s when they close.

6. Aloha Sushi

This family owned, local business excels at providing delicious, high quality sushi to-go that is also budget friendly. They have been in business for 17 years, so they know their stuff! They have maki rolls with fun names like Superman maki, Disney maki, and Vegas maki. You really feel like you're part of the Aloha Sushi family when you order here.

7. Ba-Le Sandwich and Thai Cuisine

If you’re craving something on the lighter and cooler side, stop here for a very to-go friendly bahn mi sandwich. Or, can’t decide between Vietnamese or Thai food? You can get both here. Pair your meal with a cooling fruit smoothie with boba. This is a tiny local spot that offers a very large menu!

8. Jet’s Local Fast Food 

Jet’s has been offering quality fast food since 1982. There are 2 locations on the island, and we are lucky to have one close enough to walk to. This is another small location with a varied menu including classic cheeseburgers and fries, lunch meat sandwiches, and box lunches. And, this place gives you “bang for your buck” with the cost to portion size!

9. Loco Moco Drive In

If you find yourself to be in that mood where you’re really hungry but you just can’t decide what you want to eat, it’s a good bet you’ll find just what you need here. This menu offers an incredible amount of fusion foods with flavors that just fit together. Get everything from pancakes, to box lunches, saimin, Korean BBQ, fries, mac salad, fried rice, and way more!

Kau Kau Grill is a local family owned business specializing in BBQ Babyback ribs, garlic shrimp, fresh ahi, and Pulehu beef short ribs. When you approach the location, don’t be deterred by it’s humble appearance. They put all their effort into preparing their mouthwatering dishes! In fact, a lot of menu items often sell out. So if you’re really looking forward to eating here, go ahead and place your order by phone starting at 8am.
